Runs for funds

Jo Booty

Jo Booty, Treasurer, Dare to Dream: Get Educated!

I am running in the Chicago Marathon this year on Sunday, October 9th, 2016, and I would greatly appreciate your support in helping me raise funds for Dare to Dream: Get Educated! a 501(c)(3) charity.  I’m asking for a sponsorship of $2.10 per mile, but any amount is greatly appreciated, in the hopes that I can raise $5500 to sponsor at least 100 girls and their mothers at the next Dare to Dream: Get Educated! Annual Conference in January 2017, at the College of DuPage.

Just $2.10 a mile, or $55.00, will support one Latina 8th grader to attend the conference.  At $4.20 per mile, her mother can also attend to provide much needed support and mentoring.  And, since 100% of all money donated to Dare to Dream: Get Educated! is used to sponsor the annual conference, your contribution is 100% tax-deductible.  According to the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Latinas drop out of high school at a rate 4 times that of their Caucasian peers, so helping to stem this trend is the reason I’m fundraising while running the Chicago Marathon.

The Chicago Marathon will be my sixth marathon overall.  And because I believe in the work that is being done on behalf of Latinas in DuPage County by Dare to Dream: Get Educated!, I wanted to make this special fundraising distance run again to help continue the good work that has already been done for this growing demographic.  Education is the key to lifting people out of poverty and helping them find their natural gifts and talents. It is projected, that by the year 2050 in the United States, about one in four Latinos will be Latina. Dare to Dream’s work on stemming the dropout rate must continue in order to make the trend turn in the opposite direction.

As stated above, I believe education is the key to ending poverty in addition to creating a skilled and diverse future workforce. In addition to my commitment to Dare to Dream: Get Educated!, I’ve continued to be a Junior Achievement volunteer for grades 1 and 4 for the past 15 years, and the chair of the Backpacks For Education school supplies drive at Molex for the past 8 years, supporting school children in grades K–12 who are in need in Lisle.

Please use the link below to donate on-line through the secure website at Crowdrise which has been provided by Molex to support this fundraising effort.  Or, if you would prefer to make a donation by check, please make your check out to Dare to Dream: Get Educated and send it to:
