Katya Perez is a Senior Research Engineer at Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD). Her focus is the development and manufacturing of both new and existing patient preoperative skin preparation products under the ChloraPrep brand. She is currently the site lead for the Hispanic Organization of Leadership and Awareness (HOLA) at BD Vernon Hills. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and an Associate Degree in Engineering Science from Wilbur Wright College.
Mrs. Perez formerly with the Kraft Heinz Company for 1 year and with General Mills for 7 years starting as a Research Engineer advancing to Senior Quality Engineer and Senior Process Engineer.
While at Kraft, she led the process development and manufacturing integration of Ready to eat Gelatin for Jell-O products, Cool Whip and Meals innovation.
While at General Mills, she led product quality, food safety, sanitation and regulatory compliance for the Chewy Bar System for Belvidere. Additionally, Mrs. Perez led breakthrough technologies enabling business growth for Yoplait, Nature Valley Bars, Totinos Pizza and Betty Crocker Icing.
Mrs. Perez was an IPRIME Industrial Fellow at the University of Minnesota studying moisture-barrier coatings using food-grade mica particulates. She was a founding member and the president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at Wilbur Wright College.
Born and raised in Ecuador. Mrs. Perez persevered through every challenge with a dream to lead the way. Coming to the United States with a passion of becoming an Engineer, against all odds no matter how bleak at times or seemingly unachievable; her vision and determination kept the fire ignited in her to pursue, press on and breakthrough every barrier and overcome every obstacle working full time to fund and fulfill her ultimate career and see her dreams come to pass. Believing anything is possible if you have the courage and the vision to go and get it.
